Challenge

Chevron recognized the importance of digital transformation in enterprise asset management but initially struggled due to a lack of input from maintenance end users. Their key challenges included: 

  • Disconnected Systems: Multiple legacy ERP systems prevented seamless data integration and created inefficiencies.
  • Inefficient Planning & Scheduling: Teams relied on manual spreadsheets to manage maintenance schedules, leading to time-consuming and error-prone processes. 
  • Limited SAP S/4HANA Scheduling Capabilities: After migrating to SAP S/4HANA, Chevron found its native scheduling tools inadequate for their complex needs. 
  • Inconsistent Asset Master Data: Varying data structures across global sites hindered efficiency, safety, and decision-making. 
  • Integration Challenges: Connecting essential tools like asset performance management solutions remained difficult. 

Solutions

To address these challenges, Chevron launched the FIRM (Facilities Integrity Reliability Management) group to drive transparency and consistency in asset management. They implemented: 

  • Prometheus SAP Master Data Governance (MDG): Standardized enterprise-wide data with structured approval workflows, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Prometheus Planning & Scheduling: Provided advanced scheduling capabilities, including weighted priority scheduling and shift management, while seamlessly integrating with SAP.
  • Prometheus Reporting & Analytics: Delivered real-time insights into maintenance and reliability performance, improving data-driven decision-making. 

Results

Despite initial resistance to change, within a year of implementing SAP S/4HANA and Prometheus solutions, Chevron’s teams fully embraced the tools. Key outcomes included:
